Car Demolition Derby Rules
Revised June, 2012

PRE-REGISTRATION $100 - $50 refunded upon arrival at the Derby Drivers must be at least 16 years of age and hold a valid driver’s license. Drivers 16 & 17 years old may drive if a release is signed by parent or legal guardian. Signature must be witnessed by event official.

1. Station wagons, sedans and hard tops are acceptable. No trucks, vans, mini cars, convertibles, hearses or Chrysler Imperials allowed.
2. All glass, plastic ornaments, lights, gas tanks, trailer hitches, outside mirrors, chrome strips, etc. must be removed.
3. Original cooling system must be used, radiator must remain in the stock position. Rad mounting may be changed to prevent twisting. Aux coolers are not allowed. Fans may be trimmed or removed.
4. Frames must be stock, no reinforcement, stock height must be maintained. Any frame repairs must be reported to officials.
5. Bumpers and bumper shocks may be welded to the frame but no extra reinforcement is allowed.
6. Battery must be relocated to passenger side floor area. It must be properly secured (ie. bolted with a bracket to the floor) and covered with rubber (ie. a piece of rubber tube).
7. Doors and trunk lids must be chained, bolted or welded shut. If securing trunk to the frame only 2 bolts may extend through the frame.
8. All cars must have hoods, hoods must be chained or bolted shut. If bolted only 2 bolts may extend through the frame. Hoods must remain in stock position.
9. Stock gas tanks must be removed, the gas tank must be relocated to a position in the rear seat area. It must be securely fastened to prevent leaks. Approved metal or plastic boat tanks are OK. Plastic jerry cans are unacceptable.
10. The inside of drivers door and drivers windshield pillar must be padded (ie. foam rubber).
11. Motor and transmission mounts may be welded or chained for strength.
12. Wheel wells openings and bumper ends may be trimmed.
13. The engine compartment firewall may be cut for distributor clearance but must be covered in such a way to prevent hot fluids from entering drivers compartment.
14. If you are removing the dash, a pipe can be welded across the car to support the steering column.
15. Tires may be smooth or grip, they may have tubes but contain only air. (ie. passenger or light truck tires.) NO implement, industrial tires or split rims allowed.
16. A drivers seat brace or pipe across the car behind the drivers seat is recommended for drivers safety. This brace MUST be securely fastened.
17. A transmission cooler may be installed inside the car away from the driver. It should be covered to prevent spraying the driver. A loop of hydraulic hose is also acceptable.
18. Drivers door MUST be painted white or silver.
19. All cars require a number painted on the outside of the car or on the roof.
20. Protective door bars will be allowed on both the drivers and passengers doors, they must be bolted or welded on. They must not exceed 10 inches in width and 6 feet in length. Channel iron or square tubing is recommended. Pipe or grader blades are NOT allowed.
21. Fire extinguisher recommended to be mounted in each vehicle.
22. All drivers are required to have gloves, goggles or safety glasses, CSA approved helmet, boots, and coveralls (fire retardant recommended).

1. 2WD 1/2 ton, 3/4 tons, Suburbans are allowed,no extended cabs, crew cabs or 4x4’s allowed. 2. All glass, plastic ornaments, lights, gas tanks, trailer hitches, outside mirrors, chrome strips, etc. must be removed.

It is recommended that the left half of the rear window be secured with mesh to prevent whiplash.

Safety for spectators, officials, drivers, and crews is our first concern. Fire, flying debris, and impact injuries ... keep these thoughts in mind when stripping and building your car.

NO TAG TEAMING! NO SANDBAGGING! NO WARNINGS!! Immediate disqualification (judges discretion).

Derby will be limited to a maximum of 40 cars/trucks. All entrants must pre-register before August 1, 2017. Make cheques payable to Barrhead Ag Society.
